Understanding the Causes and Treatment of Colds in Indonesia

Jakarta

Colds are a disease that is often referred to as a seasonal disease. The symptoms of a cold include itching in the nose, mucus (snot), congestion and sneezing.

But what actually causes colds? Colds themselves are arguably not a disease, but a symptom that indicates certain health problems. In Indonesia, there are 3 most common causes of colds experienced by sufferers.

First, infection with the influenza virus or what is often called the flu. This infection can be transmitted through the air, so if you are around people who have the flu, it is very likely that you can also get it if your body’s immune condition is not fit.

The second cause is allergies. Allergies are the most common cause of colds. There are various types of allergies, ranging from cold weather allergies, animal dander, to pollen. What are the similarities? All of these allergies can trigger inflammation of the nasal cavity which results in an itchy, runny, stuffy nose, and sneezing.

Third, Sinusitis or inflammation of the sinus cavities. The sinus cavities function to filter, humidify and warm the incoming air. If the incoming air contains pollution, dust or bacteria, it can cause the sinus cavities to become infected and inflamed, resulting in excess mucus production.

Therefore, to deal with a cold you need to know the cause first. If it is due to allergies, it can be overcome by staying away from allergens or allergy triggers. If a cold is caused by an influenza virus, then you need to boost your body’s immunity by resting and eating nutritious food.

If the methods above are not enough, then you can take drugs. You can get flu medicine easily at pharmacies without needing a doctor’s prescription. But remember, choose a cold medicine with a combination of pseudoephedrine as a decongestant (airway reliever) and triprolidine as an antihistamine (allergy reliever).

One of the cold medicines that you can get at the pharmacy is Dicom. Dicom proven to be effective in treating cold symptoms and has long been recommended by general practitioners, ENT specialists and other experts.
