Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – Senior artist Kiki Fatmala died due to lung cancer which had been eating away at her body since 2021. This sad news was conveyed directly by the family last Friday (1/12/2023).

It is known that lung cancer is the main cause of cancer deaths worldwide. Lung cancer is a type of cancer that begins with the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in the lungs. Cell growth comes from exposure to carcinogenic substances such as cigarette smoke. If not treated immediately, the cancer can spread to the lymph nodes or other organs in the body.

Lung Cancer Symptoms
Symptoms generally shown by lung cancer sufferers are a cough that does not go away, excessive pain in the chest area and shortness of breath, coughing up blood, fatigue, significant weight loss, bone pain, and headaches.

However, in the early stages of lung cancer usually does not show any symptoms. That is why the presence of lung cancer can only be detected when it has entered an advanced stage. Complications that can occur in lung cancer include nausea and vomiting due to chemotherapy, anemia, anorexia and pneumonia.

Causes of Lung Cancer
Most cases of lung cancer are caused by smoking, passive smokers can also be at risk of lung cancer if they are continuously exposed to cigarette smoke.

Reported by the Mayo Clinic, doctors believe that smoking can cause lung cancer by damaging the cells that line the lungs. When cigarette smoke full of cancer-causing substances is inhaled, changes in lung tissue immediately occur.

Initially, the body may be able to repair the damage. However, with repeated exposure, the normal cells lining the lungs become increasingly damaged. These cells grow more malignant and cancer grows in the lungs.

Other causes are exposure to cigarette smoke for passive smokers, air pollution, exposure to dangerous chemicals such as arsenic, chromium and nickel, as well as a family history of similar diseases.

How to Prevent Lung Cancer
Lung cancer can be prevented in various ways, including not smoking, avoiding exposure to cigarette smoke and chemical substances, adopting a healthy lifestyle by consuming nutritious food and exercising regularly.
