Understanding Emulsions, Hydrocolloids, and Aerosols: A Detailed Explanation

Emulsion

Emulsions consist of one liquid dispersed in another liquid. Emulsions are combinations of liquids. It is basically when one liquid is consistently dispersed throughout another liquid. An example of this is mayonnaise or milk.

Hidrokoloid

Hydrocolloids are a more detailed form of colloidal solutions. In this solution, the liquid of the right material is properly dispersed in water. Hydrocolloids are commonly used in food products to affect texture, such as in sauces or gelatin.

Aerosol

Aerosols, like smoke or mist, consist of a solid or liquid dispersed in a gas. Aerosols are colloidal suspensions of solid or liquid particles in gases. The particles have diameters mostly ranging from 10 nm to 1000 nm (1 m). The components of a solution are atoms, ions or molecules. Smog, most smoke, and some fogs and clouds can all be considered aerosols.
