REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Diabetes is a serious condition that causes high blood pressure blood sugar too tall. Cause diabetes type 2 is much more common, which is usually triggered by lifestyle factors, such as being overweight and lack of exercise.
Diabetes is known to increase the risk of several dangerous health conditions, including heart attack, stroke, nerve damage and even cancer. An expert warns that it can also cause serious eye problems, with the risk of losing vision in extreme cases.
Rabia Bourkiza, physician and consultant retinal surgeon at OCL Vision in London, UK, explains that diabetic eye disease is a very common symptom of diabetes. The problem is, this condition is often not realized by sufferers.
“In the UK, almost everyone with type 1 diabetes and nearly two-thirds of those with type 2 diabetes will develop some degree of diabetic eye disease within 20 years of being diagnosed with diabetes,” Bourkiza said. ExpressMonday (7/8/2023).
Bourkiza explained that the eyes are very at risk diabetic eye disease when blood sugar levels kept high by uncontrolled diabetes. Diabetic eye disease remains the number one cause of blindness among people of working age in the western world.

This condition shows vision of straight lines looking crooked, as well as gradual blurring of vision, both of which can be indicators you have diabetic eye disease.
2. The sudden appearance of floaters

During the early stages of diabetic retinopathy, the small blood vessels in the retina (known as capillaries) dilate and begin to leak fluid that builds up in the center of the retina, or the area known as the macula. When fluid builds up in the macula, healthy cells become deprived of oxygen, which can eventually lead to vision problems.
Diabetic eye disease is also included diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular edema. According to the NHS, signs of diabetic retinopathy include:

2. Sudden loss of vision
3. Shapes floating in your field of vision (floaters).
