Also known as histamine, or red migraine, headache which usually occurs at the same time of day is common among both men and women. This condition usually affects people in their teens or middle years.
Those who experience these headaches complain of being severe and disabling. The headache is described as burning, stabbing, or throbbing. According to a study published in the journal Neurology, there is a strong link between the body’s circadian rhythm and headaches.
Reporting from Times Now News, Wednesday (17/5/2023) researchers say it is related to cortisol and melatonin, two hormones that affect sleep. The researchers found that about 71 percent of the participants experienced recurrent cluster headaches late at night or early in the morning, suggesting they were related to the body’s internal clock.
Causes of Headaches
According to doctors, cluster headaches are caused by unbearable acute one-sided pain in the head. This condition may occur once or at least seven to eight times a day, but mostly in the middle of the night.
Many people who get headaches after waking up in the morning have mostly higher cortisol levels and lower melatonin, which disrupts their sleep schedule most days. Because cortisol and melatonin cycle in opposite directions, an imbalance can cause daytime sleepiness, loss of focus and alertness, and headaches.
In addition, doctors say physical activity, stress, and increased intake of caffeine can also affect these two important circadian hormones. If you suffer from headaches at the same time every day, you can take the following steps to improve sleep quality.
