Catfish body parts can be divided into head, body and tail.

The shape of the catfish’s head is flat, but enlarges towards the back. This head is formed from hard bones.

The length of a catfish’s head is usually about a quarter of its body size. In this head there are important organs for the life of catfish. The organs visible from the outside are the mouth, nostrils, eyes, and antennae or mustache.

Catfish’s mouth is wide almost as wide as its head. In this mouth there are very small teeth.

Catfish nostrils are at the top of the head. These nostrils are a pair of small holes.

The eyes are small and protrude. This eye is between the barbel and the operculum.

Around the catfish’s mouth there are four pairs of antennae. The function of these antennae is as a sense of touch. Some people call these catfish antennae whiskers. This famous term for catfish whiskers also differentiates catfish from other fish.

At the back of the head, there is an operculum or gill cover. This operculum is hard because it is formed from chitin. This operculum can be opened and closed according to the catfish’s needs.

The catfish’s body is shaped like a pipe. The dominant colors are black, silver and grey. A small number of catfish are white. Unlike most other fish, catfish bodies do not have scales.

On the catfish’s body, there are several types of fins. On the back and under the stomach, there is a series of fins that extend almost the length of the body. Apart from that, catfish have two pairs of fins under their bodies, namely a pair of pectoral or pectoral fins and a pair of pelvic fins.

On the pectoral fin, there is a pair of sharp spines called patils. This patil is useful as a weapon and means of movement when on land or at the bottom of the water. Apart from that, there is also an anal fin.
