The “Sustainable Health” program hosts Dr. George Karam, a specialist in psychiatry and head of the psychiatry department at Saint George University Hospital in Beirut, opened the following file: What is borderline personality disorder?
Recent studies indicate that most cases of borderline personality appear after the age of eighteen
Recent studies indicate that most people with borderline personality disorder are over the age of eighteen years, as most personality disorders begin in adolescence during the growth and development of the individual’s personality. It may also affect anyone, but research has shown that it is more common in families with a related history. People who suffer from other psychological conditions, such as anxiety, depression, or eating disorders, may also suffer from borderline personality disorder.
It should be noted that about 70% of people with borderline personality disorder were exposed to sexual, emotional, or physical abuse during childhood. The separation of a mother from her children, weak family cohesion, or addiction of a family member may be considered reasons for the development of borderline personality disorder in some people, in addition to the fact that it may appear largely as a mental illness in some families if a family member suffers from it.
Finally, experts warn that borderline personality disorder is dangerous, as many complex things occur inside the brains of those affected, and the affected person’s mind may be on high alert, with a constant feeling of fear and tension for no real reason. Therefore, some may see borderline personality disorder as a mental illness that is impossible to treat.
