Understanding Black Holes: Exploring the Mysterious Cosmic Phenomena

Black holes are probably one of the most amazing astronomical phenomena, and there is not as much information about them as one would like, since many of them have not been discovered and their existence is confirmed, they are not within the reach of experts for study.

In a conversation with Radio Caracol, Doctor of Particle Physics, Javier Santolala, explained the differences between the different types of black holes, their possible function in the universe and some interesting facts about these cosmic phenomena that are mysterious to us. humanity.

According to the famous Spanish scientist, a black hole is nothing but a space environment in which gravity is so strong that even light cannot escape. “So, they are cosmic entities whose mass is concentrated in a very small area, but not much more than that,” Santholala noted.

In addition, he explained: “The supermassive black hole occurs because it has accumulated so much mass that it accumulates everything. This type of black hole has a mass of a billion times that of the Sun, while ordinary or stellar black holes have a mass a few times this mass.

He added: “These are important because they are formed when a star collapses and melts on itself, causing a regular black hole to occur, while a supermassive black hole is not known how it is formed.

On the subject of supermassive black holes, he concluded: “This is one of the biggest questions in science, because it is difficult to imagine a star of this size, so there must be some other process that must have done something. It happened in the beginning of the universe.”

Santolala asserted that wormholes are not entirely real and are a science fiction concept. “Black holes and supermassive black holes exist and have been found, so it’s part of well-established knowledge. A wormhole is a fictional entity.”

Regarding this, the physicist explained: “Of course they are not equal, because mathematics shows that this is a very strange substance, especially because it is very rare, because it is something like a black hole, everything enters it. On the other side it comes out, though much discovery is where it all goes. There is nothing where something comes out.

In addition, he added: “On the other hand, it has some strange properties of space, because gravity is attractive, not repulsive, and only the Big Bang takes everything out, and for this there are people who associate black holes with the beginning of the universe.
