KOMPAS.com – Ants build very complex social networks called colonies.
Colonies allow ants to organize and share responsibilities, as well as protect their most valuable asset, the queen ant.
The size of ant colonies varies greatly, between 20,000 and 100,000 ants.
Apart from that, ants also build nests like small hills, which provide shelter, isolation, organization and security, thus ensuring the life of the colony.

How ants build their nests
Ants make mound-shaped nests with natural materials such as soil or sand.
Many ant nest hills have depressions in the middle so they look like craters.
These mounds are the result of the ants’ hard work, from digging up remaining soil to building underground chambers and tunnels for their homes.
The tunnel is insulated keeping it cool in summer and warm in winter.
Some ant species are nomadic, meaning that the nests they build are only occupied temporarily.

Ant hills can be found in the ground, in trees, in logs, etc.
Ants may also build nests elsewhere or abandon their nests if a threat is detected.
