JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV – Data from the Ministry of Health’s Early Warning and Response System reports that as of the 11th week of 2024, there have been at least 5,461 cases of Singapore Flu in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, from several regional health service reports, 738 cases were reported in Banten and 45 cases in Depok.

The Singapore Flu virus most often attacks babies and children, but can also attack adults.

What is Singapore Flu?

Launching kemkes.go.id, Thursday (4/3/2024), Singapore Flu or what is known in medical language as HFMD (Head, Foot, Mouth Disease) is a flu caused by enterovirus viruses including coxsackievirus A16 and enterovirus 71.

This flu is also caused by coxsackievirus A5, A6, A7, A9. A10, A16, B1, B2, B3, B5, echovirus and other enteroviruses.

Pulmonary specialist at Sulianti Saroso Infectious Disease Hospital, Dr. Pompini A Sitompul said these viruses could cause extraordinary events in a number of countries.

In Asia Pacific countries, he said, the outbreak was caused by Entrovirus A71, while in Europe and the United States (US) it was caused by Coxsackievirus A16.

This Singapore Flu, continued Dr. Pompini, has a seasonal pattern according to the climatic conditions of each country.

In a number of countries such as Australia, the United States, Hong Kong, China and Taiwan, the disease appears in seasons with warm temperatures.
