Surabaya – Lung cancer is the main cause of death in the cancer group. Therefore, someone suffering from lung cancer must receive appropriate treatment.
Quoting the Yogyakarta Health Polytechnic website, lung cancer is a malignant disease of the lung tissue. Malignancy originates from outside the lungs (lung tumor metastases) or from within the lungs.
The disorder can be caused by a collection of genetic changes in airway epithelial cells, which can result in uncontrolled cell proliferation. Primary lung cancer is a malignant tumor originating from the bronchial epithelium or bronchial carcinoma.
Causes of Lung Cancer
Until now, the exact cause of lung cancer is not known. However, exposure to carcinogenic substances is the main factor in this disease. Lung cancer is also linked to smoking. Because cigarette smoke can certainly cause cancer
However, exposure to substances that have carcinogenic properties is a major factor. The incidence of lung cancer is closely related to smoking. This is because cigarette smoke contains compounds that trigger cancer or are carcinogens and are toxic.
Quoting the American Cancer Society page, lung cancer cases due to active smoking are 80 percent, while passive smokers have a 20-30 percent risk of developing this deadly disease. Apart from smoking, other factors that cause lung cancer are exposure to radon, air pollution, genetics and the environment.
Types of Lung Cancer
Quoting the Yogyakarta Health Polytechnic page, there are two types of lung cancer. The following is a complete explanation.
1. Small Cell Lung Cancer (SCLC)
SCLC is an aggressive type of lung cancer or one that grows faster than other types of cancer. 20 percent or 30,000 patients are diagnosed with this type of lung cancer every year.
SLCL lung cancer is said to be closely related to the side effects of smoking. However, the growth of this type of lung cancer can be more controlled with chemotherapy.
2. Non Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC)
Meanwhile, NSCLC is not as aggressive as SLCL lung cancer or tends to develop and spread slowly. Most lung cancer cases are NSCLC.
About 75-80 percent of lung cancer cases are NSCLC. This type of lung cancer also has three sub types as follows.
Adenocarcinoma
Adenocarcinoma is the most common type of NSCLC of lung cancer, and occurs more frequently in women. This type of cancer develops from cells that produce mucus on the surface of the airways.
Qualifying section
This type is the most common type of lung cancer, and occurs most often in men and the elderly. Squamous carcinoma develops in the cells that fill the airways. This cancer grows relatively slowly.
Large cell carcinoma
It first appears in the smaller respiratory tract and can spread quickly. This type is often called undifferentiated carcinoma because the shape of the cancer cells is large and round.
Symptoms of Lung Cancer
According to the Ministry of Health’s website, in the early stages a person has lung cancer without any symptoms. However, if it has reached a certain stage, the symptoms of lung cancer will appear as follows.
Headache Loss of body weight Loss of appetite Voice becomes hoarse Changes in the shape of the fingers, namely the tips of the fingers become convex Swelling of the face or neck Continuous coughing and getting worse, until you end up coughing up blood Experiencing shortness of breath and chest pain
If you feel the symptoms of cancer as mentioned above, immediately go to the doctor to get treatment as early as possible. So that the symptoms of lung cancer do not get worse.
How to Prevent Lung Cancer
It would be better to prevent lung cancer from an early age. There are several ways to prevent lung cancer as reported by the American Cancer Society.
Don’t smoke and avoid secondhand smoke Avoid exposure to radon Avoid or limit exposure to cancer-causing agents Eat a healthy diet
