These places are cooler than the rest of the interior, so we try to remove them. If they are too cold, it can lead to condensation and moisture build-up. Over time, such a thermal bridge not only causes mold to form on the walls, but can also damage the structure of the building.
The builders blamed them
They most often arise at the joints of various building structures and thus the contact of various materials. They also often appear in places where windows and doors are installed. Although they usually have a small surface area, a significant part of the heat escapes from them.
Their creation is not your fault, but the fault of the builders. It is necessary to think about limiting them already when designing the building. And in its implementation, use materials with the highest thermal insulation properties.

Thermal bridges are not visible to the naked eye, but they are areas that feel cooler. They are therefore best sought after in the winter. You can find out exactly where it is in your home by measuring surface temperatures with a thermo-visual camera. Here you can borrow tools from rental shops. Prices range from hundreds of crowns for a few hours of rental.
But there is no definite answer to how to remove them. The reason, as we have already written, is most often the fact that the building materials do not connect to each other as they should. Or bad insulation. Also no or insufficient insulation, caused by too thin polystyrene.
Watch out for windowsills
However, if the thermal bridge is under the window sill in your home, you can solve the insulation from the inside of the house as well. The place under the windowsill often remains unprotected, unlike windows, which insulate perfectly.
To solve this problem, there are various window sill profiles or sealing tapes that allow vapor to pass through and eliminate the formation of moisture. They will help you with escaping heat at a relatively low cost. And you’ll save a lot of money spent not only on heating, but also on the removal of mold.
