There are different types of allergies, and therefore the symptoms are different.
Patients note that allergists check the level of eosinophils and immunoglobulin E (IgE) in their tests. But you yourself will not be able to determine the presence of an allergy.
It is impossible to make such a diagnosis using a blood test, explained allergist-immunologist Olga Mukhina to the Moscow Medicine newspaper.
“The deviation of certain indicators from the norm can only indirectly indicate the presence or absence of allergies in a person,” Mukhina said. That is, doctors look at one of the prompts for ordering an examination.
And an increase in the level of eosinophils and the total level of immunoglobulin also occurs when infected with parasites, for example. These indicators are increased in pathologies with inflammation.
However, there are cases where they are reduced or normal in patients with allergies.
“If a specialist suspects the allergic nature of the disease, the patient is prescribed skin allergy tests or a blood test for specific immunoglobulins E,” Mukhina informed.
