Undersecretary Arratia for New Public Education: “Not all State policies have elements that allow for an evaluation. An initiative as complex as this requires measures to continue its process” – Ministry of Education

The authority participated in the seminar “How do we address the crisis of the New Public Education?”, organized by the Pontifical Catholic University and the University of Chile, where he presented the proposals of the Ministry of Education to strengthen the implementation of this law.

Within the framework of the activities to commemorate the Day of the New Public Education, this Friday, November 24, the Undersecretary of Education, Alejandra Arratia Martínez, participated in the seminar “How do we address the crisis of the New Public Education?”, organized in jointly by the Center for Public Policies of the Pontifical Catholic University (CPPUC) and the Center for Advanced Research in Education of the University of Chile (CIAE).

The commemoration of this day is due to the sixth anniversary of the publication of Law 21,040, an initiative that creates the Public Education System and that it was promulgated after a broad discussion that involved a political agreement from all sectors.

The activity began with presentations by Ignacio Irarrázaval, director of the UC Public Policy Center; Cristian Bellei, researcher at the CIAE of the University of Chile, and Carlos Williamson, principal researcher at CLAPES UC, who presented a diagnosis on the situation of Public Education in the country to participate in a panel where they answered questions on this topic.

Subsequently, Undersecretary Alejandra Arratia made a presentation in which she noted that “there is a transversal and shared view on the strengthening that the New Public Education requires and as the Ministry of Education we have a strategy that is in line with continuing with this process, but implementing a series of administrative and budgetary improvements.”

Taking a perspective look at the installation of Local Public Education Services, Undersecretary Arratia added that “the basis of having defined a gradual nature in its implementation allows us to reflect on how to improve. Not all State policies have elements that allow for an evaluation. An initiative as complex as this requires measures to be able to continue its process.”

After his presentation, the authority participated in a panel accompanied by former Ministers of Education; Adriana Delpiano and Raúl Figueroa, where they shared their impressions and presented their proposals for the improvement of NEP.
