NEW YORK – Firefighters responded to an underground fire at Tiffany & Co.’s newly-renovated flagship store in Midtown. The fire, which was determined to be an underground electrical fire, resulted in injuries.
Fire officials arrived at the scene and sprayed water at a grate located in front of the store’s entrance on 57th Street, near Fifth Avenue. As the incident unfolded, smoke could be seen billowing from the same grate on 57th Street.
The FDNY reported that 80 firefighters from 14 units were dispatched to handle the situation. The entire block on 57th Street, between Fifth and Madison Avenues, was closed off.
