On January 11, 2021, the underground construction of Wiener Linien will begin in Landesgerichtsstrasse behind the town hall. For cyclists, this means driving over the signposted diversion route.
Because of the construction work for the Underground lines U2 and U5 From 11.01.2021 the cycle path on Landesgerichtsstraße between Alser Straße and Josefsgasse must be diverted. In addition to the regional court and at Friedrich-Schmidt-Platz, the regional court street – the so-called two-way line – is closed for cycling between Grillparzerstraße and Doblhoffgasse. The diversion is expected to last for several years.
Diversion via Rathausstrasse
The diversion in both directions takes place via Rathausstrasse.
- Between Grillparzerstraße and Universitätsstraße you can cycle either on Rathausstraße / Ebendorferstraße or on Landesgerichtsstraße. A two-way cycle path is being created here.
- The intersection Garnisongasse / Universitätsstrasse is only partially usable for motor vehicle traffic. It is therefore quite possible for cyclists to switch from the two cycle lanes in Garnisongasse to the one-sided two-way cycle path in Landesgerichtsstrasse.
Landesgerichtstrasse in the direction of Mariahilfer Strasse
The diversion takes place
- Coming from Universitätsstrasse via Ebendorferstrasse-Grillparzerstrasse / Felderstrasse-Rathausstrasse
- Coming from Alserstraße or Garnisongasse via Landesgerichtsstraße-Grillparzerstraße-Rathausstraße.
Josefstadt can still be reached
The 8th district can still be reached via Josefsgasse, Alser Straße and Florianigasse.
- However, Florianigasse is accessed via Felderstrasse because it is not possible to cross Landesgerichtsstrasse at Grillparzerstrasse. The structurally separate cycle path by the side lane in front of the regional court cannot be used either.
- Florianigasse is partly used as a detour route for vehicles. Therefore, there is oncoming traffic between Landesgerichtsstrasse and Wickenburggasse during the diversion phase.
The construction site will be set up for the next few years until the new subway starts operating in this area in 2026. If you have any suggestions, the Wiener Linien ombudsman for this construction phase can be reached at [email protected] or by phone at +43 1 7909 67230.
