On March 19, Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs David Hale addressed the Ministerial Conference of the International Coalition for the Sahel, and underscored the United States’ enduring commitment to work with our partners in the service of security, stability and good governance in the region. Under Secretary Hale delivered remarks alongside Coalition High Representative Djime Adoum, G5 Sahel partners and member states, and international partners. He insisted on the importance of coordinating the international response to insecurity and instability in the Sahel in support of African institutions and initiatives.
The undersecretary also announced that the United States would provide more than $ 80 million in additional humanitarian aid to the Sahel region. The United States is one of the largest donors of life-saving aid to the region, and remains committed to assisting efforts to address the growing humanitarian crisis and alleviate the suffering of the people of the Sahel.
