After having suffered serious damage to its roof due to Ian’s attacks and having broken its projector since before the meteorological event, constructive actions are being carried out at the Prague Cinema that will allow it, in the future, to open its doors for activities and the projection of films, a desire of thousands of Pinar del Río, followers of the seventh art.
As explained by Felipe Morejón Rivera, municipal director of Cinema, the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC) is committed to guaranteeing, once the civil works are completed, the necessary technological equipment for projection.
At the moment, work is being done on the stage, the roofs, the entrance to La Pérgola is made independent and the position of the bathrooms is changed, indicated Xioyan Mederos Acanda, director of the institution. She added that the stage got wet during the passage of the cyclone and practically had to be completely demolished; It is currently under construction.
The actions are executed by self-employed workers and associated with the Cuban Fund for Cultural Assets (FCBC). Financing is assumed by the Provincial Film Center with the support of the Government in the territory.
Morejón Rivera pointed out that the intention with the reopening is to adjust a schedule in correspondence with the circuits of the theaters in Havana.
