Countdown to the U21 Judo World Championships scheduled starting from Wednesday 2 October in Kasri Tennis in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan. The draw ceremony will be held on Tuesday at 11am Italian time. Seventeen athletes called to defend the blue jersey to aim for a place on the world podium, with the support of the technicians Salvatore Ferro, Enrico Parlati and Vito Zocco. “We are leaving for Dushanbe with great enthusiasm. The team is made up of 17 athletes, the same ones who took part in the European Championships at the beginning of September with the only exception in the 81 kg category, where Simone Covi is present. The boys are very motivated and ready to get involved right from the first day of competition,” commented Zocco. There is no shortage of conditions for the Azzurri’s successes. It is enough to remember the three medals achieved at the U21 European Championships in Tallinn not even a month ago: from the gold of Valerio Accogli, who overtook Alessio De Luca in the final, to third place in the 57 kg of Michela Terranova. Great expectations also for Savita Russo, the youngest of the Olympic team at the Paris 2024 Games. In her debut on the five-circle tatami, the Sicilian athlete lost in the round of 32 against the Polish Angelika Szymanska due to waza ari, leaving the stage in the first round shift. In the mixed team event, her victory against Ketleyn Quadros had given hope to Italy, who were then defeated in the play-off match in the bronze medal final against Brazil. Motivated by the desire for redemption, Russo is aiming for a world medal. Below are the protagonists of the blue team, together with the calendar of the event.
