The hockey players of Slovakia have had their first match in the venue of the Junior World Championships, but so far it has only been preparatory. Nevertheless, the result is very pleasing, as Germany clearly defeated 4: 0.

Slovakia took the lead four seconds before the end of the first act thanks to Martin Chromiak’s power play goal. At the same time, it could have won earlier, but Myklucha did not use a 100% chance and Mešár’s shot was neutralized by a German goalkeeper after cooperation with Slafkovský. “It was a pretty good performance at the beginning, even though they had a few renumbering, but we had more of the game. Towards the end, our pace was slowing down, but that’s something that can still be easily improved towards the tournament. It’s easy with such a team and players like that, ” said Juraj Slafkovský, who had 1 + 1 in the match.
“It was a good start. We needed a preparatory match. We started quite well, we had more shots, we were everywhere. Everything was good in my opinion today, “ added defender Rayen Petrovický.

All the national teams at the tournament waited a week for the preparatory match. Originally, two preparatory meetings were to take place, the first being on the agenda on 19 December. However, due to the measures and the coronavirus pandemic, the organizers canceled them, instead everyone had to play only one duel from December 23. The tournament starts on December 26.
However, the Czech and Swiss national teams are very unlucky, there was a positive case for a coronavirus in one of the teams and the organizers canceled their preparatory duel. It is not known in which team.
“It was a very necessary match for us, we waited for it for a very long time. Thank God we have him. Although we have won, we need to improve our performance even more. Opponents of a slightly different weight category are waiting for us. Many of the great things we wanted to see today were there. And of course, the victory to zero is pleasing, ” evaluated the duel by head coach Ivan Feneš.

What pleased the players and the coach in the match and what do they have to improve? “The power-ups were quite good, we scored three goals in them. From my point of view, we completely failed, especially in the first period, they had a lot of renumbering. We need to watch the video and improve it, ” revealed Slafkovský, Slovaks took advantage of three of the four numerous advantages.
“We have to clean it in front of the gate. On the positive side, we were at their gate when we fired and we had a lot of shots. And especially power play, they went to us today, ” Petrovický added. The Slovaks shot the opponent 34-18.
The head coach was especially pleased with the performance of the goalkeepers, Šimon Latkóczy caught the first two thirds and Tomáš Boľo the last. But he also found things to work on. “The performance of the goalkeepers was good. We now have a huge, very difficult decision to make. The performances of the players were quite decent, one always finds some mistakes, but we need to focus on the positive things that went through us.
We will have to tighten up in personal fights. Number one will have to be gaming discipline so that we are not eliminated. ” Slovakia had three players on the bench in the match.

Although they defeated Germany, in the basic group they will face rivals of a different “weight category”, gradually the USA, Sweden, Russia and Switzerland. How will they have to play to succeed? “We have to work harder than our opponents, in any position. That’s what our hockey must look like throughout the tournament, “ Slafkovský replied.
“We have to go 100 percent all the time. We have to win fights in front of our own goal, shoot, do everything we can to win. It will be difficult, but I think we can do it, we have a good team, “ Petrovický added his teammate.
Challenging decisions now await coaches. There are 28 players on the roster, three must be eliminated. “We have a coaching meeting immediately after the match, we have to make decisions towards the final nomination so that we can announce it to the players in the morning. We have training in the morning, another on Saturday and then the expected match, ” revealed Ivan Feneš.
However, the whole Slovak team is also waiting for pleasant duties, they will have a Christmas dinner together, although they will probably have to tame themselves and they will probably not see their favorite food on the table.
“I don’t know if there will be anything special on the table, but I’m looking forward to sitting with our teammates and smiling at each other,” Slafkovsky answered the question of what he is most looking forward to on the Christmas table. In his answer, Petrovický also revealed a specific dish. “If it is, then potato salad.” But Juraj Slafkovský added: “But it probably won’t.”
