India defeated New Zealand by eight wickets in the first Under-19 Women’s Twenty20 Cricket World Cup final. Indian girls progressed with absolute dominance in ball and bat. Spinner Parshavi Chopra who took three wickets and opener Shweta Sehrawat who scored 61 runs off 45 balls were the winners. Score: New Zealand 9–107 India 2–110 (14.2). The opponent in tomorrow’s final is England. India is aiming for the first world title in women’s cricket history. The senior team lost twice in ODIs and once in T20 finals.
Shafali Verma and his team secured the semi-finals as the first in Super Six Group A. He won the toss and chose to bowl against New Zealand. The Indian youth team chased away the Kiwis batters before they could stand up. Only Georgia Pilmer (35), Isabella Gase (26) and Kayleigh Knight (12) have crossed the double figure. Parshavi, who showed good performance throughout the tournament, took three wickets for 20 runs in four overs. Nine wickets in six games for the sixteen-year-old. Second among women wicket takers. She is from Uttar Pradesh. Captain Shafali conceded only seven runs in four overs and took one wicket.
In the reply, Shafali (10) was lost in the first over, but Shweta easily led India to victory with a smashing knock. The vice-captain’s innings included 10 fours.
