Jakarta –
Russia was hit by sanctions here and there by western countries. This was the aftermath of his invasion of Ukraine. Even so, President Vladimir Putin believes the sanctions imposed will not harm his country.
Instead, he argues, the sanctions imposed will be a weapon for you, sir. That is, the sanctions will only harm countries that impose sanctions on Russia. Putin will fight Western sanctions by proving his country is capable of living amidst the onslaught of existing sanctions.
Reporting from CNN, Monday (4/25/2022), currently Putin has devoted quite a lot of time to convincing the Russian public about his mindset. He went to great lengths to reassure the western sanctioning community that it would not harm Russia.
Putin is also preparing his country for the long term. He said the Western alliance would not back down from its policy of economic pressure, so Russia’s economic sector had to prepare long-term steps.
Then, what strategies can Putin do to counter the sanctions of Western alliances? Here is the list.
1. Automotive Industry Redesign
Russia’s iconic Soviet-era domestic car brand, Lada relies heavily on imported parts. Avtovaz, which produces Lada cars, is owned by French automaker Renault. According to Evgeny Eskov, editor-in-chief of the Russian auto industry journal Auto Business Review, the companies share a single procurement system for spare parts.
On March 24, in response to the news that Renault was exiting the Russian market, Avtovaz revealed that it should urgently redesign some of its business models, so that they are less dependent on imported components.
The company did not specify which models would be affected, but said the cars would remain gradually available in the coming months.
Eskov said the redesigned model would be a simpler version of the current car, without additional features such as ABS.
