In customary fashion, Donald Trump waved to photographers as he left his home in New York on Wednesday, heading for the courtroom where the E. Jean Carroll trial is taking place.
But the photos of the photographers were to arouse far more attention than usual, because the internet caught sight of some mysterious red marks on the hand of the former president.

Created speculation
In familiar style, the “experts” in social media began to speculate.
“Hand herpes” someone said, while others speculated whether Trump might have fallen and injured himself, write Business Insiderwho also points out that there is often a lot of speculation about the former president’s health. Forbes writes that several people have guessed that it is syphilis, including adviser to the Democrats, James Carville.

Trump himself has not commented on the spots, but Business Insider contacted dermatologist Joshua Zeichner, at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, to find out if there is any good answer as to what the red spots might be.
He says, perhaps unsurprisingly, that it is difficult to diagnose such things from a distance, but nevertheless makes an attempt. He says that it is probably a rash on the hands and comes up with four theories:
- Dry hands
Well known to most people. Zeichner calls it among the most common causes of rashes on the hands. - Blisters from playing golf
Perhaps not something everyone can relate to, but Trump, for his part, is very fond of playing golf.

- He’s got lime juice on his hands
Something more obscure, but Zeichner explains it like this:
– Exposure to lime juice in the presence of sunlight can cause a chemical burn of the skin. - None of the above theories
Such rashness can come from so many things and if Trump never says what happened, we may never get to the bottom of this mystery…
