– It is a confusing situation with regard to the infection entrance to Oppdal, says mayor Geir Arild Espnes (Sp) to Dagbladet.
The municipality is now working on infection tracing and has quarantined over 300 people.
– We put a lot of people in quarantine and in waiting quarantine. Close contacts of close contacts must be in the waiting quarantine, and we use the quarantine as a tool. We have also extended the opening hours of the test station.

There are three isolated outbreaks in the municipality, which has seven confirmed cases of infection since Thursday. One last case is awaiting test results, but it is now assumed that there are eight cases of infection.
The first case of infection was confirmed after a school trip to Kvitfjell, where 34 students and three teachers at Oppdal upper secondary school participated. Here, a South African virus variant has subsequently been proven.
Then there is a case of infection in Oppdal, where a person has traveled a lot in the municipality, the mayor states. In addition to an outbreak related to Oppdal ungdomsskole.
– It is important to say that it can be me next time. It is not easy to know if you are a carrier or meet someone who is infected. This hits very randomly. But when it hits, we need to reduce the number of contact points.

Easter measures
On Tuesday, the presidency of the municipality will meet for a digital meeting. Here, proposals are made for a bandage at Easter. The mayor assumes that the measure will be adopted.
– We have been in a situation with little infection, but now we see how fast it comes. Thursday we had nothing, and now we have three situations. This will change quickly, says Espnes.
Therefore, he will not comment on any measures for the cottage tourists at Easter.
– It is far too early to say how the situation is at Easter. The infection situation can be unproblematic by then. The only sure thing is that everything is uncertain.

He says that the municipality treats all situations as if there is a mutated virus, and points out that the new virus variants behave in an “unpredictable way”.

The mayor says that the municipality receives assistance from the neighboring municipality Rennebu, both for infection detection and testing. The test station is now open from 09 to 21 in the evening.
– It would not have been possible without the collaboration with Rennebu. In extreme situations such as with corona, we see how well municipalities work together.
He adds:
– I think this situation – that our country has done so well in rounds 1 and 2 – shows the importance of good organization in the municipalities.
