An eight-year-old girl swallowed a stone with eight bells. The timely intervention of the doctors saved the child’s life. Doctors said the child’s intestines could have been injured and his life could have been in danger if he had not been treated on time.
Salma, the child of Huda Omar Mosbah Qasim and Mahir Sheikh Yassin, a Jordanian couple living in Dubai, swallowed the stone last October. Unbeknownst to her, the parents approached a private hospital in Dubai saying the child was upset and vomiting. The child also had a fever.
Examination by pediatricians Dr. Mason Yasser Salom and Dr. Deema Tarsha found that the child had swallowed the stone. After two months, Salma was admitted to the intensive care unit of the hospital and underwent two surgeries.
Parents need to be careful
Doctors Mason and Deema said young children should be kept away from objects such as stones and batteries. Parents are also advised to be careful when children play alone.
