It seems that Tom Holland has held on tight to the top of the Spanish box office and there is no one to let go of him, because after the tremendous success that ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ was week after week, his new premiere, ‘Uncharted’ is again the most watched movie this weekend and has added a whopping €1,953,400 to a total that in just 9 days after its premiere has already exceeded 5.9 million euros. ‘Uncharted’ remains on 727 screens with an average of €5,087 per cinema and has brought almost 291,000 people to theaters between February 18 and 20. Although it remains unbeatable and without rivals, the film adaptation of the popular video game has fallen by 36% after the hit of its premiere and as a whole, Comscore’s top 20 from Feb 18-20 fell short of 5 million from the previous weekend, leaving a total of €4,702,331 in revenue and 700,890 spectators.
After her, ‘Death on the Nile’, a new installment of the adventures of detective Poirot directed by Kenneth Branagh and a sequel to ‘Murder on the Orient Express’, came directly into second position. Distributed by Disney although it was produced by 20th Century Studios before its absorption, the film has become the best premiere of the week with a collection of €832,919 thanks to 120,936 spectators. ‘Death on the Nile’ was released in 381 cinemas and has earned an average of €1,633 among the 727 screens on which it was shown. A more than remarkable figure considering the drama that has accompanied its launch for years between delays and cannibalistic scandals and the disappointing reception it had in the United States. In any case, these numbers are far from the 2.2 million that its predecessor did in November 2017.
Another one that has made a fixed hole in the ranking is ‘¡Canta 2!’, which is back in third position and experiences a slight drop of 9% compared to last week. Universal’s animated sequel adds €299,987 to a total of 8.3 million and remains strong in the top 5 after 9 weeks in theaters. It is the only animated film in the top 10 most viewed and no other children’s film appears until 13th place with ‘Encanto’.
The romantic comedy by Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson ‘Marry Me’, also from Universal’, opened in fourth position with a gross of €282,194 in 300 theaters and 300 theaters, with an average of €941 in both and a total of 41,192 spectators. Closing the top 5, Holland appears again, this time with his Marvel superhero after 10 weeks on the billboard. ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, which can still be seen on 371 screens, falls 24% and only adds €242,845 to its magnificent total of 27.5 million euros, but with a cumulative 4.35 million viewers, rare is that someone is interested without seeing it. Even so, Between February 18 and 20, 36,668 people chose Spider-Man to spend the weekend and thanks to them, between the actor’s two films in theaters, 36.5 million euros have been raised.
There are no more premieres in the top 10
Despite the fact that 10 premieres hit theaters on February 18, what remains of the ranking is all made up of films from previous weeks. Curiously, Holland is not the only one who repeats in the ranking and with €160,326 and a drop of 31% ‘Belfast’, also directed by Branagh, remains in sixth position and on 278 screens with an average of €579 per cinema. Still with the success of the Goyas resounding, although with much less force, ‘The good boss’ by Fernando León de Aranoa improves 26% compared to last week and has come very close to exceeding 4 million euros thanks to the €129,954 deposited this weekend. Although it has been in theaters for 19 weeks, it is still showing on 206 screens and cinemas and has attracted another 18,243 spectators to the seats.
After an interesting debut, Paul Thomas Anderson’s ‘Licorice Pizza’ falls to eighth place and 48% adding €121,208 in 204 cinemas and screens with an average of €594. Also closing the ranking with worse data than last week were the national terror ‘Grandma’ and Will Smith’s sports drama ‘The Williams Method’. Paco Plaza’s new film has surpassed the global figure of 1.5 million, but it has only added €112,224 this weekend. The story of the father of the best tennis players in the world, the Williams sisters, has been in theaters for 5 weeks and has added a discreet €90,148 in revenue with almost 13,000 viewers.
no competition
Although it doesn’t seem that any can rival ‘Uncharted’, this Friday, February 25, the billboard is renewed with a dozen new films and a long-awaited revival, that of ‘The Godfather’, which turns 50. What’s more, ‘Official Competition’ arrives in theaters, a stark satire on the film industry starring Penélope Cruz and Antonio Banderas; and for the little ones in the house, the animation has a woman’s name: ‘Ainbo, the Amazon warrior’. If what you want is a good drama, you should not miss ‘A small world’ or ‘Great Freedom (Great freedom)’ and to give you a good scare you will have ‘The Medium’.
