Uncertainty about the end of cross-country skiing in Russia – may end up in Östersund

The background for the uncertainty surrounding the gutters in Tyumen is, of course, the tense political situation between Russia and Ukraine.

To SVT says union director Ola Strömberg in the Swedish Ski Association that Östersund has been told to be ready to take over.

– It feels uncomfortable to compete in Russia given the geopolitical situation. It would definitely be reasonable if FIS sees if it can be moved to another country, says Strömberg.

– Östersund has previously been very positive about arranging cross-country skiing, so if they are asked, they will certainly do their best to make it happen.

FIS does not currently have concrete plans to move the gutters from Tyumen.

– There is a lot of uncertainty, so our responsibility is to prepare a potential plan. But right now, all upcoming competitions are planned to be something of, says cross-country director Pierre Mignerey in the International Ski Federation (FIS) to SVT.
