UNC’s Future Star Isaiah Denis Silences Doubters on the Court
Isaiah Denis, the 2025 basketball commit to the University of North Carolina, is already facing the pressures of being a high-profile recruit. After pledging his allegiance to the Tar Heels this past November, the Davidson Day School senior has found himself targeted by opposing fans chanting "Overrated!"
But Denis, a top-tier four-star guard ranked 62nd nationally by 247Sports, doesn’t seem fazed by the taunts.
Last Tuesday, in a matchup against in-town rival Community School of Davidson, Denis silenced his critics with a scorching 20-point performance, leading his team to victory. Notably, he was facing off against Dermot Lowry, a 2025 Catawba College commit.
"UNC commit 🆚 unranked Division II commit 🚨😮💨 [quote from SLAM HS Hoops] Denis shut down overrated chants with 20 PTS in a win last night, but 2025 Catawba College commit Dermot Lowry was getting busy and dropped 28. 🔥🔥 [@Isaiah_Denis2] [@Dermotlowry10]

Just days prior, Denis turned heads at the Holiday Hoopsgiving showcase in Atlanta. He poured in 24 points, leading Davidson Day to a thrilling 76-71 win over Tri-Cities High School. This performance drew praise from 247SPORTS analyst Travis Branham:
"[quote from Travis Branham]" "Isaiah Denis and his Davidson Day squad took on a tough Tri Cities team boasting multiple ranked juniors. It took a minute for Denis to get settled in, but when he found his rhythm, his speed, length and athleticism were a problem for the opposition…"Denis’ handle looks improved and for a guy known for his shot-making, his shot wasn’t falling to its usual standard, but it opened the door for him to showcase his ability to create off the dribble."
Denis and Gonzaga College High School four-star guard Derek Dixon currently form Coach Hubert Davis’ 2025 recruiting class. However, the Tar Heels remain in contention for a couple of prestigious five-star recruits, setting the stage for an exciting future in Chapel Hill.
