Scientists speak of a “hot desert of Neptune” where the exoplanet is located, due to the combination of the factors described.
“We think the metal clouds help the planet survive in the hot Neptune desert. They reflect light and keep the planet from getting too hot and evaporating. At the same time, the metal clouds make the planet and its atmosphere heavy and harder to away,” said lead author Sergio Hoyer of the Astrophysics Laboratory in Marseille.
