Unauthorized Employment Exposed: Woman Arrested for Identity Fraud and Illegal Residence in Krefeld

Krefeld/Moenchengladbach (ots)

The financial control for undeclared work at the Krefeld main customs office in Mönchengladbach was informed by a local mail order company that a 43-year-old woman had started working there, but that there were doubts as to her actual identity. On August 22, 2023, control staff from the main customs office checked the facts. The woman found was apparently not the person she identified as and under whose identity she had started working in the company. The woman produced a Dutch ID that clearly belonged to another woman. The checks revealed that the woman is in fact a Ghanaian national who previously entered the European Union from France on a tourist visa that has now expired. She was therefore not in possession of a valid residence and work permit and presented herself as an employee under a false identity. Two criminal charges were filed against the woman, for the misuse of identity papers and for illegal residence. The woman was later arrested and taken into police custody. The facts were taken over by the immigration office of the city of Mönchengladbach. The following day, the district court in Mönchengladbach ordered detention pending deportation.
