Unanswered Questions Surrounding the Mysterious Death of Jonas Aarseth Henriksen

When the police found Jonas Aarseth Henriksen’s white work van, it was halfway out in the ditch with a trailer attached to the back.

The box truck blocked large parts of the narrow dirt road. The car was standing with the front facing away from the cabin further up the road, NRK is informed.

In the podcast “Interrogated” it is described what the friend who found Jonas could see when he found him in the driver’s seat:

“He sits with his hands on his thighs and his head back. It almost looks like he is sleeping.”

The winding forest road is the only way to get to and from the small log cabin.

Had Jonas turned around and driven back from the cabin when he was killed? Or have the perpetrators positioned the car like this?

When asked how a perpetrator might have gotten away from the area, the police say they are working on several theories.

– But we don’t have a clear answer, says police attorney Tine Henriksen.

This is just one of several questions the police still cannot answer, more than two weeks after Henriksen was found shot dead.

Used the trailer for work

A little below the cabin was the car where Jonas Aarseth Henriksen was found killed on 17 August.

Friends NRK has spoken to say Jonas only used the trailer when he was at work.

The police do not want to comment on why the car had turned away from the cabin. Nor will they confirm NRK’s information that the trailer was actually there.

But photos taken five days after the 30-year-old was found also show the orange stripes where the car and trailer are marked on the forest road.

Police crime scene technicians often use spray paint to mark the location of a vehicle before removing it from a crime scene.

– There is something strange here

Former head of investigation Jørn Lier Horst says there are two key things in a murder investigation:

– Crime scene and a body. At least here you have the latest. And then you start to get an understanding of the first thing, he says to NRK.

Horst says he thinks there is something strange about the way the car is positioned.

– It is possible to imagine that he was shot and mortally wounded near the cabin, and that he set off in the car, says Horst.

The markings the police have made show that the car and trailer leave little space on the road, so that it will be difficult for another car to pass.

On the other side of the road in front of Henriksen’s car is a slope down towards the forest.

– One can imagine that he drove after the perpetrators downhill until he lost consciousness and drove off the road. It is a scenario that can suit the tracks and the downhill. That he is no longer able to keep control of the car, says the crime writer.

At the same time, he emphasizes that he does not know the details of the investigation, beyond what he has read in the media.

– There is something strange here. If this is so thoroughly planned, it is strange if there has not been a plan to remove his body, he says.

Are sure of the crime scene

A satellite image taken at 12.26am on the day of the murder shows what appears to be the 30-year-old’s white Mercedes Sprinter, with a small trailer attached to the back.

HAS MARKED THE ROAD: The satellite image from 12.26 on the day of the murder shows a white dot on the road at the bottom left. Five days later, the site was painted, and the car has been removed.

Previously, the police have repeated that it is important for the investigation to find the crime scene.

This week they told NRK that they have a secure crime scene and place of discovery. They also have a clear idea of when the murder happened.

Police prosecutor Tine Henriksen confirms this:

– Mapping and assessing where he was found, compared to where the central crime scene is, is important to us. We have a clear idea of where he was killed, but do not want to go into detail about it, says Tine Henriksen to NRK.

Police crime technicians have spent a lot of time at the cabin and cordoned off the innermost property.

In addition, it has been blocked off with police tape 300-400 meters further down the road from the cabin.

Fewer tracks outdoors

At a crime scene that is outdoors, biological traces and surface traces can be destroyed quickly by wind and weather.

– Outdoors, you leave far fewer traces. One thing is the technical tracks, another thing is the situational tracks, says Horst.

– Overturned furniture, traces of struggle. Traces of blood. All this can tell a lot about what has happened, how and in what order, he adds.

NRK has been in contact with Marijana Lozic, the family’s assistance lawyer. She chooses not to comment on the statements from the police on Friday evening.

Don’t know why he was there

The owner of the cabin where Henriksen was found has previously told NRK that she did not know Jonas Aarseth Henriksen, or what he did in the area.

A central theory has been whether he may have been tricked into the discovery site, either through a fake job assignment or in some other way.

– Was it Henriksen himself who drove the car to the discovery site?

– That is one of the theories, replies Tine Henriksen.

But the police still have no clear answers as to how Henriksen got to the cabin area.

Nor do they know why he was there.

The police have been clear from the start that they want tips from the public in the case.

They have asked that people with dashboard cameras get in touch if they filmed while driving in the area in the days before the murder.

They have also asked for tips from people who have been near the discovery site.
