UNamur Establishes Faculty of Education and Training Sciences to Address Societal Challenges

Renowned for the attention it gives to its students and for the quality of the pedagogies implemented in its teaching, the University of Namur has invested for more than 35 years in the initial and continuous training of teachers as well as in pedagogy specific to higher education. It conducts cutting-edge research in these fields and offers many support services for students, future students, professors, teachers and all those involved in education. So many skills developed in particular through the activities of the Department of Education and Technology (DET) and thanks to research carried out within the IRDENa Institute.”

A unique faculty in Belgium

The FaSEF is the first faculty in Belgium which is mainly dedicated to initial training and continuous training programs for teachers, teaching managers and trainers in various professional sectors. It is open to all disciplines related to the world of education and training.

“Our expertise in education and training has long been recognized by our peers in the world of research, by politicians, by students, without UNamur being able to graduate students at any level in this field. This expertise has also long been put at the service of other faculties, teachers in pedagogical support, students in terms of methodology and orientation. Today, this new faculty resolutely positions UNamur as a player in training in the sciences of education and training.”, comments Annick Castiaux, rector of UNamur.

A faculty to train

The FaSEF offers many opportunities for initial and continuing training in the field of education.

The first stage of its deployment will take place from the start of the school year in September 2023. The FaSEF will organize, in co-diploma with the Haute École de Namur-Liège-Luxembourg (Hénallux), the Specialized Master in Teacher Training. This new diploma replaces the CAPAES in the pedagogical sections, for those who teach didactics, pedagogy and training to and through practice. Who is he talking to ? What will be the advantages of the training offered by UNamur? What will his program be? Discover in detail this new Specialized Master. For the interested public, a information evening will be held on July 4.

In 2023, FaSEF will also be a partner, alongside Hénallux, UCLouvain and IMEP, of fifteen new teacher training programs in sections 1, 2 and 3. Discover them.

Then, over the years and the implementation of the RFIE, the FaSEF will continue to enrich its training offer. From 2025, it will offer, replacing the didactic master’s or the aggregation, the “120” Masters in “section 4” teaching and the “60” Masters in “section 5” teaching. They will be organized, in joint degree with Henallux, in the following disciplines: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics.

From 2032, FaSEF will open registration for the Master of specialization in teaching “sections 1, 2” and the Master of specialization in teaching “sections 3, 4, 5”. Eventually, hundreds of new students will therefore be expected/welcomed at UNamur.
