Minister of Health (Minister of Health) RI, Budi Gunadi Sadikin said that the clinical trial process red and white vaccine made by Airlangga University (Unair) smoothly, then mass production will be carried out by PT. Biotis Pharmaceuticals Indonesia next year.
“I pray that it will go smoothly so that in the second half of next year, the red and white vaccine can be produced,” he said at the Open Session of the 67th Unair Anniversary on Tuesday (9/11).
In addition, Budi said that the third phase of the clinical trial scenario is still in the drafting stage. The government plans, apart from being used for the vaccination process twice, another scenario being developed is that the vaccine is used as a booster and also for children.
“So, the first scenario is used to inject the vaccine twice, then for the second scenario the vaccine will be injected once as a booster so that it can strengthen the previous vaccine and the third scenario the vaccine will be injected twice targeting children under 12 years old,” he said.
On the same occasion, Budi also witnessed the handover of vaccine seeds from the Rector of Airlangga University to PT. Biotis Pharmaceuticals Indonesia. According to him, what Unair and PT. Biotis Pharmaceuticals Indonesia is an extraordinary thing because it can complete the research process to preclinical trials, in less than one year.
Since the beginning of the development of this vaccine, added Budi, the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) has been involved. Thus, all parties jointly accelerate in developing the first domestically made vaccine.
“Once again, I express a very high sense of pride towards my colleagues at Unair for being the first to create a domestic vaccine production. I also express my deepest gratitude to PT. Biotis Pharmaceuticals Indonesia,” he said.
Vaccine seeds handed over to producers
Universitas Airlangga handed over seeds from the Merah Putih vaccine to the partner who will produce the vaccine, PT. Biotics Pharmaceuticals Indonesia, on Tuesday 9/11.
The handover of the seeds also marks the collaboration between the two institutions.
