UNAIR Doctor Review Pediatric Hepatitis Treatment – Universitas Airlangga Official Website

UNAIR News In a series of regular events UNAIR TV Doctor Education Doctor organized by Faculty of Medicine (FK) University of Airlangga (UNAIR) on Friday (9/8/2024), Dr. Dr. Bagus Setyoboedi, Sp.A(K) provides education about hepatitis in children.

In his presentation, Dr. Bagus explained that hepatitis is an inflammatory condition of the liver that can arise from various factors, such as viral, bacterial, protozoal or non-infectious diseases. Among children, hepatitis is usually not very dangerous and the symptoms are often mild or even invisible.

Dr. Bagus emphasized that taking care of liver health is very important. The liver is an organ that plays a role in various vital functions of the body. “Liver cells are cells whose sole responsibility is to support liver function. “If the liver is disturbed, liver function will also be disturbed,” he explained.

Dr. Bagus also stressed the importance of being aware of hepatitis B in children, which can be transmitted from mother to baby and can be harmful. If hepatitis B becomes chronic, it can progress to cirrhosis of the liver or even more serious mutations.

Some of the clinical signs that can be recognized in children with hepatitis include yellowing of the sclera (the white part of the eyes), nausea, flatulence, anorexia, and abdominal pain. Another symptom that often appears is a change in the color of urine to become dark like tea.

Although hepatitis in children often does not require special treatment. Dr. Bagus emphasized the importance of implementing a healthy lifestyle and achieving nutritional and multivitamin intake to maintain children’s health. This is important to avoid serious problems in the future.

“In general, hepatitis in children does not require special treatment, so only nutritional support and multivitamins are given,” he said.

Furthermore, Dr. Bagus reminded parents to always take care of their children’s hygiene. Good hygiene and maintenance hygiene can help prevent hepatitis infection, especially in vulnerable environments.

Through education on the UNAIR TV Doctor program, Dr. Bagus hopes that parents will be more aware of the importance of maintaining children’s liver health and encourage better preventive measures through proper hygiene and vaccination. That way, the risk of hepatitis in children can be reduced.
