The Honduran Red Cross, through a request addressed to the head of the Faculty of Legal Sciences of the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH), managed a campaign to donate 25 pints of blood that was carried out on August 1 of this year, with the support of students and teachers of the Law School.
This campaign is carried out several times a year, with the objective of supporting the National Blood Bank, which is available to the entire Honduran population that requires some type of transfusion, whether due to surgery, an accident of any kind or illness, taking into account that donors must meet certain essential requirements so that they can voluntarily contribute to such a noble cause.
The requirements include:
1. Eat a very good breakfast
2. Have a minimum weight of 110 pounds
3. Not being sick
4. Do not take any medication before donating
5. Bring identification
6. Comply with a minimum of 3 months after any surgery or tattoo
7. Be willing to volunteer to be a donor
8. Be between 18 and 65 years old.
“After completing the information, the person is evaluated to begin the process of filling the bag, which can usually take 5 to 10 minutes depending on the donor’s hemoglobin level; if the hemoglobin level remains at a good level, the process is faster and vice versa,” instructed Nora Trejo, a promoter of voluntary blood donation.
“You have to think a lot about the type of reaction that each volunteer may have; however, don’t be alarmed because it is normal. In general, people may feel nervous or even if they don’t eat well, they may have a drop in blood sugar or blood pressure, which quickly goes away because it is a probable effect that will occur,” said the promoter.
The Highest House of Studies is always at the service of the community, trying to raise awareness in society, putting good principles into practice and responding to each request received.
