The German Trade Union Federation (DGB) has announced warning strikes for the public service in Rhineland-Palatinate for Tuesday (23 November). The first two rounds of negotiations between the Federal Tariff Commission and the collective bargaining community of the federal states had not brought any result, the DGB said on Tuesday in Mainz. The warning strike on Tuesday will have an impact on all public service positions. However, special attention should be paid to the health system. How the warning strike should run was initially unclear. Because of Corona, a “stay-at-home strike” is also conceivable, said Verdi regional district manager Michael Blug.
Health care particularly affected
There are concerns that employers will not move, said Blug. “The fact that there is no offer from employers after the second round cannot be surpassed in arrogance.” This applies above all to the health care system. Susanne Wingertszahn, district chairwoman of the DGB Rhineland-Palatinate / Saarland, said: “The public service employees have impressively demonstrated what they are doing around the clock, not only during the pandemic. The blocking attitude on the part of the employer is therefore completely unacceptable for us. “
The next round of negotiations is planned for November 27th and 28th. The unions are calling for higher wages for public service workers in the federal states and refer, among other things, to a higher burden during the corona pandemic. According to Verdi, around 300 employees at the Saarland University Clinic in Homburg already went on strike on Tuesday.
