The leader of Muslim League-N and Federal Minister of Finance says that the federal government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf delegations have agreed to hold general elections in the country at the same time.
At the end of the third session of the negotiation team between the government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf on Tuesday night, Ishaq Dar, who is part of the government team, told reporters that ‘the results of these negotiations are positive for me.’
Ishaq Dar said that it is agreed that elections should be held on the same day in the country. There is no more ambiguity in the issue of elections in two provinces on one date and in other assemblies, including the National Assembly, on another date.
He said that ‘Both parties have agreed that single-day elections are an improvement.’
However, he also said that ‘There has been some flexibility regarding the date of the election, but both the parties have proposed their own dates.’
Federal Minister Ishaq Dar said that ‘another positive result is that whatever the date of the election, there will be supervisory governments in the country.’
‘The government could not agree on the dissolution of assemblies and the date of elections’
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf’s deputy chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi, who is part of the negotiating team, says that ‘we have decided that we will present our position in writing in the Supreme Court.’
He said that we will request the Supreme Court that no progress could be made in these negotiations. The Punjab elections should be held on the 14th and we do not want any delay in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa elections either.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that the initial view of the government team was that the elections should be held simultaneously in the entire country, including Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and that the assemblies should be dissolved after the completion of their parliamentary term.
He said that ‘we discussed this issue and tried to come closer to each other.’
Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that we showed great flexibility. We accepted the one-day election proposal, accepted the caretaker set-up and accepted the 54-day curfew and moved on.’
‘But we think that the PDM and we could not agree on this.’
“We proposed to them that the assemblies of Sindh and Balochistan, including the National Assembly, should be dissolved before May 14 and elections should be held within 60 days after that.”
Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that ‘We also suggested that for this we should amend the constitution only once for which Tehreek-e-Insaaf is ready to go to the National Assembly.’
There have already been two rounds of talks between the government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s negotiating teams.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf chief Imran Khan said on Monday that his party’s position in the negotiations with the government will remain the same, that if the government announces the dissolution of assemblies from May 14, PTI will hold national elections on the same day. is ready.
But till now it has been clearly stated by the government that elections in the country are not possible before October.
On the other hand, Federal Minister of Defense and senior leader of Pakistan Muslim League-N, Khawaja Asif has said that ‘negotiations with Imran Khan are futile and general elections will be held on time in October.’
In a conversation with a news channel, he said that ‘Imran Khan wants the election to be held before the retirement of Chief Justice Umar Atta Bandial in September.’
When the TV anchor asked him whether the government wants elections to be held after the retirement of the current Chief Justice. So he replied: ‘We don’t want elections to be held after his (Chief Justice’s) retirement, but we want them to be held on time.’
Regarding the talks with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf, Khawaja Asif said that politicians have been playing the game of talks but talks with Imran Khan are futile.
According to Khawaja Asif: ‘The judges who asked us to negotiate are suffering from division themselves. Judges should first negotiate for unity among themselves.
In the country’s two provinces, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the provincial assemblies (where Imran Khan’s governments were) were dissolved in the recent past and caretaker governments are now in place. The Supreme Court has ordered elections to be held on May 14 in Punjab.
But the parties in the government are of the opinion that the elections should be held on the same date across the country and talks are being held to create a consensus for the same purpose, but apparently both parties are sticking to their positions so far.
