World food prices hit an all-time high in March following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which led to a shortage of several raw materials, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
The FAO points out that its food price index rose by 12.6% month-on-month in March, reaching 159.3 points, the highest level since the 1990 index began.
The organization explains that Russia and Ukraine account for a significant share of exports of a number of raw materials, including wheat, vegetable oils and corn.
These export disruptions have already raised concerns about the global hunger crisis, especially in the Middle East and Africa.
