UN suspends night aid movements in Gaza

United Nations. The United Nations has suspended night movements in Gaza for at least 48 hours to assess security issues following the murder of staff working for the food charity World Central Kitchen, UN spokesman Stéphane Dujarric said on Wednesday. .

He also noted that the suspension began on Tuesday. The World Food Program continues its operations during the day, including daily efforts to send convoys to northern Gaza “where people are dying,” Dujarric added.

“As famine approaches, we need humanitarian personnel and supplies to be able to move freely and safely through the Gaza Strip,” he told reporters. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said Israel mistakenly killed seven people working for World Central Kitchen in an airstrike in Gaza on Monday, prompting condemnation and calls for explanations from the United States and other allies.

The UN has long complained about obstacles in getting aid to and distributing it through Gaza. Additionally, he has repeatedly called for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in the six-month war between Israel and Hamas. Israel is retaliating against Hamas in Gaza for a deadly Oct. 7 attack on Israel by Palestinian militants.
