UN / Summit on the transformation of education: Minister Mariatou Koné presents the Ivorian model for the mobilization and involvement of young people

Abidjan – The Minister of Education and National Literacy, Mariatou Koné, present in New York, as part of the United Nations Summit on the transformation of education, presented the Ivorian model in terms of mobilization and involvement of young people.

This high-level meeting will take place from 16-19 September 2022.

During his speech, Mariatou Koné indicated that this involvement of young people became more concrete during the General States of National Education and Literacy (EGENA).

Continuing, the Minister underlined that the EGENAs were designed with and for young people. They were involved at all stages and in all regions of the country because it was important to reform education taking into account the aspirations and needs of young people.

He informed the assembly that the issue of young people is a priority for the President of the Republic Alassane Ouattara, who has placed it at the center of the government’s action.

Led by young people, the first day of this world summit, dedicated to mobilization, made it possible to convey their recommendations for the transformation of education. In songs or with speeches, young people have voiced their involvement in the decision-making process.

The recommendations focused on several points, including disability-sensitive policies to take into account each student’s individual needs, eliminate stereotypes and many more. The Ivory Coast delegation presented the Ivorian model of involving young people in the education system.

Speaking on behalf of the Ivorian youth, Yasmine Sibailly praised the involvement of young people in the Ivory Coast and the leadership of Minister Mariatou Koné.

UN Secretary General António Guterres made commitments during the works. According to him, young people must be integrated into decision-making mechanisms. “The fight will be long, but the UN is determined to go in this direction,” he concluded.

This summit, which will end on September 19 with the day of the leaders’ meeting, will address several issues that will require large-scale action to accelerate the 2030 agenda for transforming education.
