Moscow. 17 October. INTERFAX.RU – The UN Security Council rejected a resolution prepared by Russia calling for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas and the release of prisoners.

The resolution was supported by five council members. Four, including the United States and Great Britain, voted against, six abstained.

The previously circulated text of the resolution speaks of “serious concern about the escalation of violence and the deterioration of the situation in the region.” It also condemns violence against civilians and calls for the release of prisoners.

In addition, the document contains a call to “ensure unhindered supplies of humanitarian aid, including food, fuel, medical assistance, and also create conditions for the safe evacuation of civilians.”
