March 8, 2023 UN Secretary General António Guterres allegedly “was furious” during the meeting in Kyiv and “almost smiled” when it came to the territorial integrity of Ukraine. This is reported The Washington Post with reference to “leaked” intelligence.
According to the documents, Guterres allegedly told his press secretary, Stephane Dujarric, that he was “really pissed” about the unexpected public awards ceremony for the Ukrainian defenders.
According to assistants to the Secretary General, President Vladimir Zelensky staged this event without notice. Later, he published a photo and video of the ceremony, from which it follows, the newspaper writes, that Guterres “welcomes military personnel from one side of the Russian-Ukrainian war.”
According to one document, Guterres “emphasized that he was trying not to smile all the time” during a press conference in Kyiv. On it, he expressed support for the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
The document contains a conversation in which Guterres allegedly told his representative that he went to Ukraine to help, “but the Ukrainians are doing everything to us (probably, we are talking about the UN. – Ord.) liquidate”.
In an interview, Dujarric confirmed that the secretary general was “really unpleasantly surprised” that the awards ceremony in Kyiv was turned on without prior consultation. However, he categorically denies the use of the term “liquidate”, the newspaper writes.
There is no reaction from the Guterres office yet.
