In a letter sent on March 1 to Pedro Comissario Afonso, current president of the Security Council, the transitional government challenges the status of France’s penholder on all questions examined by the Security Council concerning Mali. The penholders are responsible for drafting resolutions and declarations to the Security Council. According to the document, France has carried the pen on all subjects concerning Mali in the Security Council since December 2012. Within the Security Council, this role is generally devolved to France, the United Kingdom and the States -United. In August 2022, Mali lodged a complaint with the Security Council for acts of aggression, subversion, destabilization and violation of Malian airspace by aircraft of the French armed forces.
