(CNN) – The United Nations said on Thursday that an Israeli military order to evacuate the entire population of the northern Gaza Strip is “impossible” without resulting in serious humanitarian consequences.
The Israeli military informed the United Nations just before midnight local time on Thursday that “all Gazans north of the Gaza Valley should move to southern Gaza within the next 24 hours,” according to Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for the UN Secretary-General.
This amounts to approximately 1.1 million people in the densely populated region.
