UN General Assembly Strongly Supports Palestine’s Membership Bid

United Nations General Assembly (PBB) fully support the effort Palestine become a full member of the United Nations. A total of 143 countries expressed their support in the vote held on Friday (10/5) local time.

A majority of members of the UN General Assembly recognized Palestine’s right to join the world body, and recommended the UN Security Council to “reconsider this matter seriously”.

If Palestine is accepted as a full member of the UN, this step will effectively mean that the UN will officially recognize Palestine as a country.

In a vote held on Friday (10/5) local time, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution supporting Palestine’s efforts to become a full member with 143 countries supporting it and nine other countries against , and 25 countries abstain.

The voting results of the PBBB General Assembly do not grant full membership to Palestine, but only as a symbolic recognition that Palestine meets the requirements to join the UN.

They said that the resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly “decides that the State of Palestine should be accepted as a member” and “recommends that the Security Council (UN) will reconsider this matter favorably” .
