UN General Assembly Adopts Russian Resolution Condemning Nazi Glorification

The UN General Assembly adopted a Russian resolution on the fight against the glorification of Nazism.

118 countries voted for the resolution, 49 were against, and 14 abstained. Among those against were the USA, Ukraine, Britain, and Germany. Russia, China, and Israel were among those who voted for the document.

The document recommends that countries take appropriate concrete measures, “including in legislation and education, in accordance with their international human rights obligations, in order to prevent the revision of the history and outcome of the Second World War and the denial of crimes against humanity and war crimes committed during the Second World War.”

The document “strongly condemns” incidents related to the glorification and propaganda of Nazism, in particular the application of graffiti and drawings with pro-Nazi content, including on monuments to the victims of the Second World War.

Earlier, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution according to which Russia could be held accountable for the war in Ukraine.

We are talking about a resolution to create an international register of damage caused by Russia to Ukraine, as well as recognizing the need to create a mechanism for compensation for losses.

The UN General Assembly also adopted a resolution calling for an immediate truce in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone.

The resolution was adopted by an overwhelming majority. It calls for an “immediate, permanent and sustainable humanitarian ceasefire” that will lead to “the end of the war” in the Gaza Strip. The resolution also requires providing the population of the Gaza Strip with access to vital goods and services.
