UN Flags at Half Mast in Jakarta to Commemorate Staff Deaths in Gaza Conflict

The United Nations (UN) is flying its flag at half mast. The flag flying at half mast was intended to commemorate the more than 100 UN staff who died in the war raging in Gaza Strip.

As reported by AFP, flags were flown at half-mast at various UN office complexes in Asian countries, Monday (13/11) local time. UN staff in their respective offices also held a moment of silence for one minute.

The UN’s flying of flags at half-mast came a day after the world body reported ‘a large number of deaths and injuries’ in attacks on UN facilities in Gaza Strip.

The blue and white UN flags at UN offices in Bangkok, Tokyo and Beijing were also said to have been lowered to half-mast at around 09.30 local time.

The UN agency to support Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, announced last Friday (10/11) that more than 100 of its staff had died in the Gaza Strip since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas.

Israel has carried out massive bombing of the Gaza Strip since Hamas launched a surprise attack on October 7. Tel Aviv authorities report said the Hamas attack killed around 1,200 people, most of whom were civilians. and took more than 240 other people hostage.
