“UN Envoy Dispatched to Sudan as Clashes Continue Between Sudanese Army and Rapid Support Forces”

The UN envoy to Sudan, Volker Peretz, said, on Monday, that there are no direct negotiations yet between the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudanese army.

He added, “So far, there are no direct negotiations, and there are preparations for talks or to prepare for talks between the two sides with some regional and international countries that work directly with the two sides, and we support these efforts. I personally am in direct contact with the two sides. Guterres’ spokesman, Stephane Dujarric, announced Sunday in a statement: “Events in Sudan are taking place at an unprecedented scale and speed,” expressing his “great concern” and calling on “all parties” to protect civilians and allow them to leave the battle zones.

The United Nations urged the parties to the conflict in Sudan to protect civilians and infrastructure, and called on the parties to the conflict to allow safe passage for people fleeing the fighting areas.

This comes as the UN Relief Coordinator said that the humanitarian situation in Sudan has reached a breaking point after two weeks of clashes.

Earlier on Sunday evening, the Sudanese Armed Forces announced their approval of Extending the truce with the Rapid Support Forces for 72 hoursto commence as of the expiry of the current armistice period.

The Rapid Support Forces in Sudan also announced their agreement to extend the humanitarian truce for 72 hours, starting from midnight tonight.
