NEW YORK – The office of the Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres condemns the series of drone attacks on Moscow and calls for an end to any and all attacks on civilian facilities.

Russia has blamed what it called the “terrorist attack” on Ukraine, and Kiev has made clear that it is responsible for the attack.

“We oppose any and all attacks on civilian facilities and we want them to stop,” deputy Guterres spokesman Farhan Haq told reporters last Monday. RTThursday (3/8/2023).

Haq was speaking a day after several unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were intercepted in Moscow’s financial district, with debris from the downed plane damaging two skyscrapers and injuring one person.

One of the same buildings was damaged again on Tuesday, when one of the three incoming UAVs jammed electronically and veered into the glass facade of the tower, according to Russian authorities.

While Kiev has yet to take direct responsibility, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky declared on Sunday that war was returning to Russian territory. Meanwhile one of Zelensky’s top advisers, Mikhail Podoliak, said on Tuesday that Moscow was quickly getting used to full-fledged war, and would soon experience more unidentified drones, more collapse and more civil conflict.

Zelensky and his officials followed a similar pattern after previous Ukrainian attacks on civilian infrastructure. Ukrainian officials welcomed the Crimea Bridge bombing last October but denied responsibility. Ukrainian security officials finally acknowledged the attack earlier this summer, and claimed responsibility for a follow-up attack on the bridge last month.

Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said on Monday that Ukraine launched “terrorist attacks” on Moscow and other civilian targets in Russia out of frustration over its failures on the battlefield.
