UN Claims Jokowi Rejects Amendment and Position for 3 Periods

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Secretary General of the Crescent Star Party (PBB) Afriansyah Ferry Noor said President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) reject the plan amendment Basic Law (UUD) 1945 who is currently rotating in the MPR. Jokowi, according to Afri, also rejected the discourse of a three-term president.

He conveyed this when the Ketum and Secretary General of the coalition political parties supporting the non-parliamentary government met Jokowi at the State Palace, today, Wednesday (1/9).

Initially, Afri left a message to the UN chief, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, who could not attend the meeting. Yusril, said Afri, said he was ready to help if the government wanted to amend the 1945 Constitution.

“Pak Yusril ordered about the limited amendment. Pak Yusril is ready to help with the limited amendment if desired or held,” Afri said to CNNIndonesia.com (1/9).

Hearing those words, Jokowi then responded to Afri. Jokowi, he said, rejected the proposed amendment to the 1945 Constitution because it was prone to widening everywhere. Jokowi, said Afri, the plan is up to the MPR.

“After that, the president responded again. “‘I don’t agree with the amendment to the Constitution. Fear spreads all over the place. About the 3 periods and others’, said Pak Jokowi,” said Afri.

“It’s all up to the Senayan MPR. He said that,” he added.

In addition, Afri said that during the meeting, Jokowi only conveyed about the pandemic, the economy and the relocation of the nation’s capital.

He also said that each Ketum of Political Parties is welcome to speak in response to what the President has explained.

Coalition political parties outside of parliament that are included in Jokowi’s coalition are PBB, Hanura, PSI, PKPI and Perindo.

Previously, Jokowi also gathered high-ranking coalition parties who have seats in Parliament, namely PDIP, Gerindra, Golkar, Nasdem, PKB, PPP and PAN who are the newest members of the coalition.

The issue of the amendments raised was proposed by the Chairman of the MPR, Bambang Soesatyo. Bambang hopes that the amendment will regulate the authority of the MPR to ratify the PPHN.

This plan was criticized because it was accused of targeting other articles in the constitution and it was not impossible to touch on the article about the presidential term of office.
